The houses here are panoramic farmhouses and pool villas facing the valley, often bought by foreigners and entrusted from afar: the owner lives in New York or London and needs someone to answer in their place, in their email time zone. Punctual statements, photos of every inspection, small decisions taken without waking anyone: remote-owner management is the speciality this valley demands.
How the area works across the year
The season runs April to late October with two precious tails: Montepulciano’s Bravio delle Botti in August, and the foliage and harvest weeks, when more mature guests arrive without children and stay longer. Chianciano and the nearby thermal baths stretch weekends into winter too.

A1, Chiusi and Cortona: the Valdichiana is reachable
Tripcare sells the Valdichiana to owners for a practical reason: it is the part of Tuscany easiest to reach without a nearby airport, with the A1 at the Valdichiana and Chiusi exits, Chiusi–Chianciano station on the Rome–Florence line and Camucia–Cortona on the same line. Guests from Rome arrive in an hour and a half, and book out of season too.
The houses are villas and farmhouses between Cortona, Sinalunga, Cetona and the hills towards Montepulciano and Lake Trasimeno: more open ground than the Val d’Orcia, better roads, suppliers in Sinalunga and Camucia. From Poggibonsi the team takes one to one and a half hours, with the area technician for emergencies.
The calendar has two events of its own — the Bravio delle Botti in Montepulciano on the last Sunday of August and the Giostra del Saracino in Arezzo in June and September — and the advantage of the Chianciano and Rapolano springs for autumn. The border with the Val d’Orcia is a few kilometres away: many houses are sold to guests under both names.

- LucignanoLucignano has an elliptical plan of concentric rings, laid out in the Middle Ages around the Collegiata di San Michele Arcangelo: you walk the village along curving streets that never meet, with the Medici fortress at one end and the Museo Comunale holding the Albero d’Oro, the goldsmiths’ reliquary worked between 1350 and 1471.
- BucineBucine is the Valdambra: a wide, thinly populated municipality that follows the Ambra stream from the plain at Levane up to the woods towards Siena, with the main town at the bottom and the hamlets scattered above.
- Monte San SavinoMonte San Savino is a walled village on the western edge of the Valdichiana, with an A1 exit that carries its name: you enter through Porta Fiorentina and walk the corso between the Loggia dei Mercanti and the Palazzo di Monte, the former attributed to Andrea Sansovino, born here in 1460, the latter to Antonio da Sangallo the Elder.
- Torrita di SienaTorrita di Siena is the municipality of the Sienese Valdichiana closest to the Valdichiana exit of the A1 and to the Siena–Bettolle link road, and from Poggibonsi the drive takes about 71 minutes: our team does not pass every day, and the management model is built around that.
- TrequandaTrequanda sits on a ridge at 460 metres between the Crete Senesi and the Valdichiana, with just over 1,200 inhabitants spread across three villages: the main town with the Cacciaconti castle, Petroio, where terracotta has been made for centuries and the Museo della Terracotta tells the story of jars and roof tiles still fired in the village kilns, and Castelmuzio, a walled hamlet with the Romanesque church of Santo Stefano a Cennano just below it.
- SarteanoIn Sarteano, in the Pianacce necropolis, the Tomb of the Infernal Chariot was discovered in 2003, with its demon driving a chariot drawn by two lions and two griffins: it is visited by reservation, a few people at a time, and it brings here a cultured guest we would not see elsewhere.
- Chianciano TermeChianciano Terme is the municipality in this area where the supplier problem weighs least: a spa town with decades of hotels behind it has laundries, cleaning firms, maintenance men and drivers within a few kilometres, and for a villa managed 98 minutes from Poggibonsi that counts more than any other factor.
