The White Truffle Fair has been held in San Miniato since 1970 on the last three weekends of November: the truffle hunters of the San Miniato hills sell tuber magnatum at the counter, the restaurants of the centre offer truffle menus and the streets host producers of new oil, cheese and wine. San Miniato white truffle is among the most prized in Italy and the harvest season runs from September to December.
It is one of the few reasons a villa between the Valdelsa and the Pisan hills works in November: couples and small groups who come for the truffle and the food, often Italian, for two or three nights. The concierge books a truffle hunt with a hunter and his dog, the restaurant and dinner at the villa with a chef.
