Impruneta Grape Festival

The Impruneta Grape Festival has been held since 1926 on the last Sunday of September: the four districts — Fornaci, Pallò, Sant’Antonio and Sante Marie — parade in Piazza Buondelmonti with allegorical floats and choreographies prepared for months, in a contest the town lives as Siena lives the Palio. Impruneta is also the capital of Tuscan terracotta, and the kilns open their doors in the same week.
For the villas on the hills south of Florence it is an end-of-season Sunday with local and Florentine demand: houses a few kilometres away host families combining the festival with Florence and Chianti. The concierge books the seats in the square and arranges the return, because the town is closed to traffic from the morning.
